Tell us about yourself. (Brief Introduction)

I am a Dubai based Make-up Artist and Hairstylist from London. I specialize in Bridal, Events and Editorial with experience of working and being trained at MAC Cosmetics at Harrods, London.

Was being a makeup artist something you were always passionate about?

By education I am actually a Fashion and Textiles Designer, having graduated from Central Saint Martins and London College of Fashion. Naturally from a young age, I have always been inclined towards art and design. My fascination with makeup started because of my mum Sadaf, who has been in the makeup, hair and beauty industry for over 30 years, with her own salon in London. It started out with helping her for fun, but soon all my friends and family started asking me to do their makeup all the time and because I enjoyed it so much, I wanted to do it more and more. The idea of never having a mundane day is what was attractive to me. The process of enhancing, transforming and giving a woman that confidence is fulfilling beyond words. I also love the creative freedom makeup gives me to bring my visions to life.

What inspires you?

My mum! Her unnerving hard work and constant strive to get better at her mastery is so inspiring! Apart from her, faces, fashion ,travel, cultures, work by other artists. I have grown up admiring work by the legends Kevyn Aucoin, Pat Mcgrath, Mario Dedivanovic – their precision and talent is in a league of it’s own!

One celebrity you’d like to doll up.

Kim Kardashian – yes it’s a clichéd answer but she really has the most killer features for makeup. I love the influence she single handedly has on the makeup industry.

Three must have beauty products.

Sunscreen (I recommend La Roche-Posay Anthelios 60 Ultra-Light Sunscreen Fluid)

Beauty Blender

MAC Fix+

Advice for young make-up artists.

Aim for perfection with each and every client. Pay attention to detail in your work, don’t get complacent and always keep practising to strengthen your skills. Be innovative and creative , don’t restrict yourself to the trends and style in your region. This is something I constantly tell myself too: persistence is so important, success does not come overnight. Don’t hesitate to put yourself out there because networking is key. You never know when you’ll get your next big break. And finally, don’t underestimate the power of being nice – it goes a long way in this industry (or life for that matter!).
