When I think of spring, I think of flowers, pink and pastel hues, and a soft breeze. The weather definitely affects our mood, fashion, and the food we eat, so it’s only fair that the makeup we wear should reflect the same. Let’s talk about the must-haves for Spring!
Foundation / Base
Moving away from the matte base usually worn in the winter months, I like to switch to a medium coverage glowy foundation or base in spring. Something like the Diorskin Nude BB Cream is very good for this look. Similarly, the Burberry Fresh Glow or the Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue are also good options.
Alternately, you could also stick to your trusted full coverage base, or whatever suits your skin best, and opt for a more highlighting concealer. For me, this is the Clarins Instant Concealer, which offers excellent coverage, while leaving behind a glow. The trick is to apply it slightly lower on the under-eye area.
If, like me, you have no skills with eyeshadow, the best way to add colour to your eyes this spring is to use jumbo crayon eyeliner/eyeshadow hybrids in the market. I own these in several colours, including green, blue, pink, purple, bronze and grey, and I just run them across my lower eyelid and blend out slightly with my finger or a brush. It looks like you have put in a lot of effort with blending, and also gives your eye a sultry look. My favourite ones are the Sephora Collection Colouful Shadow & Liner which comes in 30+ colours and lasts really long! A lot of drugstore brands also offer similar products, including Rimmel and Bourjois.
Spring is all about that ‘pop of colour’, using the right texture. For this, I really enjoy using cream products, including cream blushes. They blend well with a liquid base and can be built up easily. Some of my most used cream blushes include the Aerin Beauty Multicolor for Lip & Cheek (hello, packaging!) and the KIKO Bouncy Blush from the Rebel Collection.
Also try the Hourglass Ambient Blushes, which come in a variety of colours and are the perfect soft blush-highlight hybrid that is perfect for spring.
In addition to the blush, continuing with them pink and glowing theme, highlighters will be your best friends. My top picks for Spring are the MAC Cream Colour Base in Hush, and the cool/pink toned highlight by Anastasia Beverly Hills called Riviera.
Everything starts to get a little more sheer, but bright, in Spring. Opt for softer berry tones, and classic pinks. Some of my favourite products for this include the Clinique Pop range (colour + primer), and the Fresh Sugar Lip colour (with SPF, bonus!) in Tulip. The colour and the name are both perfect for Spring.
If you really want toe treat yourself, you MUST try Tom Ford lipsticks in general, and the Spanish Pink, in particular.
A good manicure can really bring the entire look together, and spring/summer are especially fun, because you can experiment with any colour you like. The classic colours I would go for in spring, though, are bright pastels and pinks, such as Essie’s Fiji (pink-white), Splash of Grenade (lilac-mauve), Fundola Gundola and Nails Inc. Marylebone Lane. On a budget, Barry M also does some beautiful pastels in the Speedy Quick Dry range.
Have a great Spring, beauties! x
